Getting “Intimate” with Cotton Underwear

Betsey Johnson Stripe Stretch Cotton Chemise, $31.90, Nordstrom.com

It’s another hot day, which means you’re thinking carefully about what to wear that will keep you cool and comfortable. A breezy A-line cotton dress, or a lightweight cotton top and skirt are all ideal, or maybe even a midi-maxi to rock short and long at the same time. But are you giving as much thought to what you put on underneath it all?

It turns out not all underwear is created equally; 65% of women say they prefer their underwear to be made of natural fibers, according to the Cotton Incorporated Lifestyle Monitor™ Survey, and 52% say they are willing to pay more for it. But lots of underwear at retail today is actually made from synthetic, petroleum-based fabrics, which don’t let your body breathe like natural fabrics do. And in the summertime, that’s especially important.

And if you think cotton underwear is limited to “granny panties” and other high-waisted, unflattering options, we’re delighted to tell you that’s simply not the case. Take a look at some of our favorite finds, and be sure to visit our Pinterest board on Getting Intimate – you might be surprised some of these are made from cotton!
