DIY Dip-Dye

Admit it: you love the tie-dye look, but it can sometimes feel a little too 70’s to wear every day. Dip-dye is a new take that we’re seeing everywhere and  loving it, especially on our own Emmy Rossum, above  – but it turns out it’s so easy you can do it at home.  Check out an easy, step-by-step tutorial on WhoWhatWear.com by P.S. I Made This’s Erica Domesek – whom you might remember from our “Do the Cotton Tux Redux” back in February.

Loving the ombré look instead? Pour a small amount of bleach in a large bowl, and then dip the garment in. Let it sit for a few minutes before adding hot water. Allow that to sit for a few minutes, then repeat the process until you reach your desired effect. (Tip: the bottom part of the garment will end up being the lightest.)

If you want to get colorful, use the same process but with colored dye instead. We’re loving this lime green – it pops and is so perfect for summer. Check out an easy how-to here.

Be sure to wash your newly dyed garment on its own at first, so the bleach doesn’t spread to other items.  Get Emmy’s look at home with these adorable dresses, or try DIY dip-dye with denim. What would you dip-dye?
