Trend Report: Stripes

From runways to street style, we’re seeing stripes everywhere this season! Stripes are easily the biggest trend for Spring 2013. That said, stripes are tricky. If you are planning to try this trend, start by investing in a cotton striped sweater. It’s versatile, lightweight, and the perfect transeasonal piece that you can wear all year long. Wear it over your favorite skinny jeans or cropped trousers during cooler months. Pair it with shorts for that effortlessly chic look during warmer months.

However you decide to wear your stripes, remember to check the fiber content labels to make sure that what you’re getting is made of cotton. We picked a few of our favorite striped looks. Click the images to purchase.

Feminine Frills

We can’t help it – we’re swooning over the ruffles and frills that have taken the runways by storm for Spring 2013. While we love a little masculine edge in womenswear, whether in military jackets or studded harness boots, we can’t help but get excited about showing off our feminine side. Especially since the ruffles we’re seeing are sophisticated, not dated; they’re sleek and modern instead of over-the-top and flouncy. Check out a few of our favorite frilly finds; click on the images to purchase. How will you wear this trend come spring?

Style Resolutions for 2013

Sometimes we get so caught up in what’s trending and what will look fab no matter your silhouette that we forget about what else it takes to have great style. So we came up with a list of 5 Style Resolutions for the New Year to start ourselves off on the right foot. What are some of your style resolutions for this year?

  1. Buy clothes that fit. Don’t get trapped into thinking, “This will look great if I lose 10 pounds.” Invest in pieces you love that fit the size you are now – not the size you want to be.
  2. It’s all about the little things. Regular wardrobe maintenance is key to ensuring your pieces live a long and happy life in your closet. That means taking the time to have those high heels resoled, tears mended, trousers altered, and buttons sewn back on. Take the time in January to take care of your wardrobe, and you’ll reap the rewards all year long.
  3. Take stock. Look through photos from 2012. What did you wear? What did you think you would love that ended up not leaving your closet? Let your past wardrobe choices guide future ones, so the next time you want to spring for that impulse buy, you’ll be better able to gauge whether you’ll actually wear it.
  4. Clear out. We love talking about spring cleaning, but January is actually a great time to clean out your closets. You might have gotten some fab clothing as holiday gifts, and if your closet is anything like ours, you’re working with limited space. So clear out the old, taking stock of what worked and what didn’t, and bring in the new!
  5. Consider making an investment. Now that you’ve taken a good hard look at your wardrobe, cleaned out your closet, and done a little maintenance on the pieces that needed a little extra love and care, investing in an investment piece might be the right next step for you. What are you missing? A well-made trench coat? The perfect shoes to go with anything? A party-ready dress?
