It was a hot, sticky weekend here in New York, which means we’ve put away our favorite blue jeans until the fall. But that doesn’t mean we can’t wear denim this summer – it just means we need to get a little creative about showing off our baby blues.
We love denim dresses because they’re a refreshing alternative to denim jeans, without sacrificing any of the comfort or style we associate with jeans. And while chambray shirt dresses have long been popular, there are plenty of other options for the cottonista. From embellished to collarless, tribal print to bleached out, there’s definitely a denim dress out there to suit your style.
We picked just a few we liked – but options abound. What’s your favorite look?
One of our favorite trending colors right now is tangerine. It’s bold, bright, and beautiful – and best of all, flatters many skin tones. It’s a quick way to add a healthy glow to your wardrobe, whether you’re sporting a gorgeous pleated skirt or just some fun accessories. From dip-dyed cotton shorts to a gorgeous printed dress, we love how brands and designers have incorporated this fab color into their line up. And best of all, it’s a color with staying power: pair that cotton sweater with skinny jeans and ankle booties come fall for a cool weather wardrobe win. How do you dream in tangerine?
The camo trend is another menswear-inspired look that has made its way into women’s wear – and we have to admit we’re fans. There are so many fun ways to wear this trend, from subtle (a camo-inspired watch, for example) to bold (go big or go home with a hip-length camo jacket).
We love that it walks the line between sexy and sporty, and with spring here, that’s just what we need. Pair these looks with a neutral heel for added oomph, or slip on some cute sneakers with a camo print for a sportier feel. There are so many fun ways to work this trend; we’re just thankful we’ve got all spring to play with it!
When it comes to statement pants, we say go for it! Just keep in mind that loud prints work best when the rest of the outfit is toned down. Here are a few styling tips to help you incorporate one of the spring’s hottest trends into your wardrobe:
- Keep your top clean and simple.
- Opt for tops in solid colors.
- Keep the shape of the pants in mind. We like our prints on tailored silhouettes because this combo is more flattering.
- Dress up your cotton statement pants with a black blazer and a solid top for a look that’s office appropriate.
- When you’re wearing prints, you don’t need to accessorize much, but one piece of statement jewelry works.
- For a chic weekend look, try pairing your statement pants with a lightweight cotton gray sweatshirt or a plain white tee and flats.
SXSW ended last week, but the music festival season is just getting started. We love the music festival scene because it’s a creative environment that inspires people to try out fashion-forward looks and experiment with their personal style. Regardless of your style, you can’t go wrong with simple, fuss-free outfits that are made from lightweight and breathable cotton. We’ve rounded up a handful of festival-worthy cotton items to help you achieve that effortlessly cool, boho look.
Spring fashion is in full force right now, even if Mother Nature is unwilling to cooperate. We’re seeing bold hues and bright pastels everywhere, and we love this dose of color. From mellow yellow to bright tangerine, and elegant emerald to pretty powder blue, this spring’s colors are stunning and vibrant. But it got us thinking: if you had to choose just one hue, which would it be? We pitted two of our favorites – Emerald and Powder Blue – against each other. They both work for a range of skin tones and body types, which we love. Which will you reach for when it’s time to add a little color to your wardrobe?
This spring, experiment with embellishment. Layer on lace. Beautify with beading. Choose pieces with a little extra detail, whether in fabric or in added extras, to make your outfit stand out. From classic white tops made special with baroque embellishments, to beaded shoulders on an asymmetrical dress, these added details can really pop. They carry a piece from ordinary to extraordinary. And when you choose cotton, you also ensure that the item is still easy care and easy to wear.
How do you like to wear embellishment? Beaded tops? Studded denim? Or bejeweled sheaths? Click on the images to purchase, and let us know in the comments!
